The Colored Shield of El Cid Campeador, by Marto, is an ornamental, triangular shield, known as a kite shield, made of steel. This shield is painted white with a black cross and possesses a distinctive, crackled finish; the center showcases a gold-plated metal sheet, riveted in place, depicting, in relief, the namesake of the shield and Spanish hero of the Reconquista: Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar, better known as El Cid Campeador.
