| Roman Clothing | We have a wide selection of Roman clothing. Our brightly colored Roman tunic copies the standard issue to the Roman legions from the days of the Republic to the end of the Empire. Worn under Roman armor or by itself, the simple lines of this tunic are classic and lend themselves to many combinations of clothing from later periods of history. Romans took the color from the Spartan's red cloaks as later did the English army. Spartans wore red so that their enemies would never see them bleed. |
| Roman Daggers | Our Roman Daggers also called the Pugio, replicate originals that have survived in remarkably good condition in a European museum. The distinct shape of the Pugio blade was excellent for a close quarters fighting, and was used throughout the legions. Roman daggers were a basic part of the roman army. When they were in close formation and the sword or spear could not be used, the Roman dagger was the next weapon of choice. |
| Roman Sandals | The Roman Legion wore roman sandals for the long march during the roman campaign. The hobnails on the bottom of the roman sandals kept the sole from wearing out too quickly. Our roman sandals come in a variety of sizes and are the perfect accessory to your Roman outfit. |
| Roman Shields | Our authentic Roman style Shields have been featured in HBO's Production - Rome. These full size functional Roman shields feature elaborate designs. Each Roman shield is stoutly constructed of stained plywood (ancient shields were frequently made by glueing planks together). Roman shields were used by the Roman Army to deflect missiles targeted at the soldiers, as well as protect them from the impact of hand held weapons yielded at them. |
| Roman Swords | We have many types of Roman swords in this category that the Roman Soldiers used to carry with them into battle. Roman Swords include the Roman Short Sword, Roman Gladius Sword, Roman Spatha sword and the Gladiator Sword. Most of the Roman swords we carry are fully functional and can be used for Roman re-enactments. Other Roman swords are for costume purposes and are purely for decorative use. |
| Roman Weapons | Our Roman weapons consist of various pilums. The Pilum had a long, relatively soft iron shaft which, though certainly capable of penetrating its intended target, was likely to bend on striking armor or the ground, thus making it useless to be thrown back. A common tactic when using the Pilum against troops with shields was to pierce the opponent’s shield, whereupon the shaft would bend, making extraction difficult. The opposing soldier, thus encumbered, was likely to throw down his shield, losing his defense against the infamous Roman short sword. |
